Images of Christ

I ran across a a quote the other day by C.S. Lewis stating, "I do not want my image of God, I want God." How profound are these words? We continually make our own assumptions and images of God in our minds. What if we could take these destructive or even constructive images of Christ and throw them away to make room for the God that was, is and is to come. He is greater than any image we can create in our small minds. I want God!

On the Side of the Road

How often do we pass that person on the side of the road? Personally I've only stopped three times in my life, twice to change a tire and once to give someone a jump. But how many times do we stop to help others with more problems than just road-side maintenance? I mean spiritually do we notice the invisible hand wave or inaudible cry for help from our friends, co-workers or acquaintances? This is probably one of the most challenging things we face in our lives; whether to pull over or not.

Through my years here in Providence I've seen many spiritual lives grow and some fizzle out. To watch them grow is one of the most amazing things to be apart of, on the other hand, watching the light in peoples lives grow weaker is one of the most terrible things to witness. Can you see the light starting to fizzle in someones life? If so are you going to pull over and help them rekindle the flames they once had? For me the answer is simple, I pull over! I can't bear to watch another person step away from Christ, to be swallowed by darkness. I can vividly remember when I decided to take my own path over God's path and the devastating things that happened to me. To know someone could go through the same thing makes me step on the brakes with both feet to jump out and help. I don't mean that always I'll talk to them immediately, but I go to Christ in prayer over what it is he would have me do in that situation, that is unless I see them driving toward a cliff. What I'm saying is that, perhaps we need to keep our "spiritual eyes" open to the people around us and no just pass them by when then their hands are flailing in desperate need of help. The situation calls for prayer first and foremost, then action. Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace to help us in time of need."

Let us pray that we won't become that passive driver on the road of life and pass those in need, but that we would have the compassion to see when we need to pull over and help. And in all things, no matter how big or small that we would bring it to the God of grace that abounds in mercy and love for his children.

FRieNDSHiP

I was really thinking about what "Friendship" meant to me today. It came up in a conversation with a great friend of mine and those three simple but very meaningful words, "I Love You." I only tell a handful of people those words, perhaps it's so that they don't loose their full impact in my life. You all have probably heard these words thrown around like Mardi-Gras beads to a rambunctious crowd of on-lookers; but, search deeply as to whom you say it, and consider, "Do I really mean it?" Jesus says in John chapter 15 verse 13, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friend." Do you love this person so much you are willing to die for that person? If your answer is "YES!!" then I encourage you to say these words, because behind them is great power. On the other hand, If your answer is "NO" then I strongly encourage you to evaluate that friendship. Don't get me wrong I don't mean its wrong if you say no, but consider how this person effects your everyday life.

I have a handful of people I call friends, and I can say that they have impacted my life and I have theirs. For these people I would drop anything, give them a kidney if they needed it, put my life in danger for if it came down to it. these people have continually brought me back to God and his word, we have edified each other in the word, and (maybe not in all cases) laughed and cried together. I thank God that he has put them in my life and that they, at most are only a phone call away.

Do you have anyone in your life that you can say that about? If not I encourage you to pray for God to put those people in your life, that you may know what a true friend is, and get to grow closer to each other through God. Friends are Important, and to those who read this and are my dear friends, "I love you."

Prayer Meeting

Prayer Meeting is Every Monday and Thursday at 8pm upstairs in the Rec. Center. Come to one or both, Either way Niki or myself will be there and we'd love to see you and pray with you!

Right or Left

What if you're in your car and just like every time before you go to turn right but ended up going left? would you freak out a little or go with the flow? I have to say for me that I would freak out not a little but a lot. But how often on our life's journey do we choose one direction and end up actually (not by our initial choice) going a different direction? God has the road map to our lives and knows what's best for us in the long run. perhaps you're at a crossroad and are going to make that left turn? Does God really want you to go that way or the other? My suggestion is to really seek God's discernment in the situation, He'll give it to you weather or not you want to hear it. Seek Him in all things, He only wants to do the best for you, that's why He's our Abba Father. Think about it, pray about it!

Thanksgiving

What are you thankful for? Search your heart and let those things ring out from your soul. I encourage you to start your prayers with thanksgiving, thank the Lord for the blessings in you life, in the lives of others and for seeing Him work daily. In doing this you might find a new perspective in how you go about saying whatever it is you plan to say next. In doing this I realize it's really His will in my life and not my own and so I pray specifically for His will in my life to be done, no matter what I think I need. And what's more important than that, He's awesome and supreme how much more is His will better than our will?
Do it, meditate on it.
Happy Thanksgiving, give it to God!

Supremacy

What is he meaning of "Supreme"? The meaning can only be understood if we truly recognize the the meaning for the word in our lives spiritually. What I'm saying is, "Who/what is supreme in your life?"Is it a job, a lifestyle, a car, an education, a relationship? But who is it supposed to be, what is it supposed to be? The answer is really only as deep as you want it to be. The answer should be Christ, but how many things are we putting in place of the awesome supremacy of Christ. It's amzing when we reallize how many things we try to put in place of Christ, how many things we try to place before Christ. We need to place Christ in the slot of top priority, but we cant do it ourselves, only by Prayer and our relationship with Him could allow us to truly keep Christ Supreme in our lives. So, pray that Chist will rein in you life, that He might be lifted up in your life, that His Lordship would be supreme over your life!

For His Glory

This summer has brought happiness and sorrow, any of you who know me know that this summer I married my best friend and was working my dream job. But also this summer I was fired from my dream job, possibly throwing me into the deepest depression I've ever known. It's hard to understand that I was depressed because of a JOB, but after about a month I've figured out that this could only happen if I was living in a way unsuited to God's plan for me; I was living to work and not living to glorify Him. I was going to work to fill the void I pushed God out of. I'm not an expert but I’m pretty sure that this is not what He had wanted for me to do.

But the question I have for you is, How often do we do this? Why do we push God aside to fulfill our selfish desires? Perhaps we can only see this with hind sight, at the time it feels we're doing the right thing. I know in the situation I was telling myself, "I'm providing for my family, I'm trying to spread God's joy and light into the world and that cant be wrong, right?" But I lost sight of the Simplest form of Love, I was not in close communication with God, I wasn't Praying or reading His Word, I wasn't loving or nurturing toward my relationship to the One who created me, so I lost the real reason I was working so hard for. If I'm not working with God I'm only working against God. Though I thought I was spreading God's light into the world I see now that I wasn't, I didn't leave a lasting legacy of Christ in that place. They miss me for me not Christ, they miss my personality not Christ's love, they miss my passion for food not my passion for Christ.

Is it more important that they miss me or the light I shined onto the workplace? The answer is simple; Christ calls us to be His light to the world that they might see Him, not me! I can't help but feel as if I've failed God, but I also failed the people I loved and worked with because of my selfish ambition. I failed them because I stifled God's light and will for them and myself.

We're put in these places for a reason, let's not forget that! We're here to make disciples of all nations, that includes the places we work, the people we work with, the people we see daily. Can we say that we've done that today? If not, hopefully we have another day to do so. God cannot be pushed to the back burner. He must stay front and center in everything we do. It's imperative not only because He calls us to, but we are responsible for their eternal soul, what if we're the only Christians they come across in their lives? We need to make a lasting impression of Christ not ourselves, Christ is our Legacy, He is the reason we're in the places we are and meet the people we meet. If we hide His light from them we are no better, and our relationships become pointless.

I really encourage you to examine yourselves and ask yourselves the questions, "Am I doing this with God? Is He Glorified in my conversation? Am I really putting myself last and Him first?" If not it is important that you step back and really see where God is pushing you to go, because He does everything for His own glory, not yours.

I encourage you to Pray! Pray for the people you work with/for, pray that He will open the doors for you to share His light with these people in your life, pray that you're sensitive and have open ears to hear his plan for your situation, for it's all for His Glory!

The CROSS

let's focus

on the CROSS

the cross is what it's about.. over Christmas. lets spend some quality time thinking about the cross, what it means in OUR lives or what it SHOULD mean to our lives!! Thinking about the CROSS at Christmas might seem a little weird, might seem like and "Easter" question.. but without birth, there wouldn't be death and no CROSS.. so spend some time... questioning what the CROSS means to you!

Remember to GIVE THANKS over this holiday season. We all have people, events, stories and things to be happy for this season so lets think and look back over this past year to remember them and give thanks for everything.

So even though we give thanks on every day ( or at least should be) lets take this ONE day and be certain to remember what God has done in our lives.

See you in a week when the next tri starts!!:)
